Lionel Galfré, former Director of the IMSEE, after a year in the interdepartmental delegation to the Digital Transition, took over the leadership of MonacoTech. His wish is to succeed in entrenching of the startups welcomed to create value in the Principality.
Strengths of MonacoTech
His strategy is clearly to build on the strengths of MonacoTech without trying too hard to overcome certain weaknesses, for example the limited size of this structure. Among its strong points, the name and location in Monaco. “As soon as we pronounce Monaco, everyone is listening.” To this is added an exceptional geo-socio-economic environment with a connected region, Nice airport, Sophia-Antipolis, but also a quality workforce and the 140 different nationalities present in Monaco. “There are people in the Principality who have done a wonderful job and have very exceptional networks.” In addition to these advantages, there are the facilities of contact with the authorities, the administration and companies not forgetting everything that can bring entities like MEB, JCE or the diplomatic network.
The objective is clear: to create value, jobs and wealth in Monaco through startups. To do this, it is necessary that they have their base in Monaco and that they are anchored there. Hence several imperatives: to find them premises but also to use networks in all fields to encourage their development. Probably also choose specific profiles of startups, which probably involves sectoral specialisation.
