The Carlo app, launched in 2019 to support local commerce in the Principality, is at the center of discussions about how it will be financed. Currently, the Monegasque government subsidizes part of the cashback offered to users. However, recent statements by Pierre-André Chiappori, Minister-Councillor for the Economy and Finance, suggest a possible reduction in this state participation.
This prospect is raising questions among affiliated merchants, worried about the potential impact on their business. Antoine Bahri, co-founder and managing director of Carlo, stresses the importance of the application in maintaining local commercial activity, and highlights the benefits in terms of VAT generated for the State.
On the other hand, National Councillor Corinne Bertani warns against making too radical a change to Carlo’s business model, believing that “changing everything would perhaps be a mistake”.
